Camila and other traumatized children worldwide

United Nations - New York, NY - Unicef recent health alerts targeted Sub-Saharan Africa as the home of nearly 90 per cent of all children living with HIV. Most children are infected with the virus while still in the womb, during birth or while breastfeeding.

Treatment is on the rise, but much more needs to be done. In low- and middle-income countries, 275,700 HIV-positive children received antiretroviral treatment in 2008, compared with 75,000 in 2005 and 127,300 in 2006.

The total number of young men and women aged 15-24 living with HIV was estimated at 4.9 million in 2008. Of these, 2.9 million live in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Lord, we lift up Camila and all those suffering with HIV and other catastrophic illnesses worldwide. Inspire medical research to find new ways to treat HIV and other life threatening conditions. Give hope to your suffering children. Send the resources needed to attend to their needs. Help us to be a life-giving world committed to the care of the needy and suffering. Hear the cries of the poor and those in pain. Answer their prayers before they are spoken. Help us to guard, protect and nurture the children of the Sahara, Haiti, Pakistan, Sudan and all war torn areas. Help us to be a people of hope, who reverence life and your will for all children.

Blessed Pope John Paul II

Rome, Italy - Pope Benedict XVI recently announced Pope John Paul II will be declared Blessed on May 1st. John Paul II is often referred to as the Pilgrim Pope. He often traveled the world embracing the sick, the poor and the marginalized to raise consciousness of the suffering in the world. He beatified more saints as Pope than any other Pope in history and he was a champion of Divine Mercy and the Right to Life for all peoples and nations.

Our prayer today is a continuous prayer of thanksgiving for Pope John Paul II and his legacy. He guides us still by his example, his writings, programs and policies that have created a world wide solidarity of compassion and love. May his legacy continue to guide us still through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all nations, peoples and faiths. Pope John Paul II was a Father of Faith for Poland, Rome and the world. Lord, continue to bless us through all our religous leaders, and the saints among us past, present and future.

Judge John Roll and other Victims of Tucson, AZ Shooting

Tucson, AZ - As our Nation observes a moment of silence for Federal Judge John Roll and all those killed in the tragic shooting in Tucson on Saturday, let us add our prayers for those struggling to survive as well. May our Lord's presence be a source of healing and comfort for all those involved and their families.

Lord, we thank you for all those who serve our country. We pray for continued blessings and divine protection for all our government officials, public servants on a state and local level, as well as all those in the military. Grant them your wisdom and truth to do your will as they serve our country now and in the future.

"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace!
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt,faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master! Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; To be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned. It is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life." - Saint Francis of Assisi

Art and Katie Hancock and Family

Cable, Wisconsin - Art Hancock, of Cable, had just pulled into the Washburn School parking lot for a basketball game with his sons when his cell phone rang.

Dad, theres smoke all over the house, said his daughter.

Katie Hancock was in Hayward with two of their daughters and their 13-year-old daughter was home alone. Get out of the house and call 911, he replied, and immediately left Washburn, heading home.

By the time he arrived home, the house was in flames. While watching the firemen work in below-zero temperatures, Hancock, an Episcopal priest, sent an e-mail from his laptop and titled it God is so good.

The fire still rages at our home, but all the kids, dogs and bunny are fine. We lost our cat Claire in the fire and most of our stuff. We were able, however to salvage our photo albums. God is so very, very good. Already we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from our faith communities and neighbors. We will be just fine.

There are two prayers that I would ask you to continue to say for us at this time. The first is Thank you, Almighty God, for sparing us. The second is Come, Lord Jesus. We feel so amazingly blessed by our good and faithful God and by all of you. May God keep you all safe and warm tonight.
