Sam Schmid, Age 21, Christmas Miracle

PHOENIX, AZ As the New Year approaches let us give thanks for our many blessings and miracles we have received over the past year. Sam Schmid, age 21, is our Chrismas miracle this year. Only hours from being taken off life support at a Phoenix hospital, Sam, a coma and brain surgery patient, began to respond to commands to move his fingers. Sam was involved in a five-car crash in Tucson on Oct. 19 that left him with a brain aneurysm, among other life-threatening injuries.

Schmid underwent brain surgery performed by Dr. Robert Spetzler at Phoenixs Barrow Neurological Institute. With no responsive signs from Schmid, staff recommended taking him off life support. But Spetzler recommended keeping him on life support for one more week.

Doctors were shocked when Schmid began following commands to hold up two fingers. Schmid is now walking and talking and is described as a miracle brain injury survivor.

Let us continue to pray for miracles in the New Year for nothing is impossible for God.

Alcario Moreno, Age 39, Denison, TX.

Denison, Texas - According to Bartlesville Police Department Capt. Rocky Bevard, authorities received a 911 call around 12:09 p.m. that there had been an accident in the area of Frank Phillips Boulevard and Silver Lake Road.

At that time, a Chevy Silverado pickup was westbound on Frank Phillips and came up behind another vehicle waiting to turn, he told the Examiner-Enterprise. He swerved to the north side of Frank Phillips and when he did so, lost control, left the roadway and rolled over.

He said there were three people in the truck at the time of the accident and that two were treated for minor injuries at the scene, while the third occupant, later identified as 39-year-old Alcario Moreno, was sent to Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville before being transported in critical condition to St. John Medical Center.

The incident was also responsible for a second accident, that Bevard said was directly behind the Silverado.

Lord, many times our actions effect others when we are not aware of impending physical or spiritual danger. Please grants us your divine protection, divine intervention and divine deliverance in all areas of our life.

Joseph, Age 9, Kansas City

Kansas City, Kansas - Joseph, age 9, is spending this Advent Season at his mother Maria's bedside. She is battling cancer and is not expected to live. Joseph's prayer is uttered amidst tears for a few more days for His Mom so she can spend Christmas with the family. Joe believes Christ came to give us eternal life but saying "Goodbye" to his Mother is just too painful.

Let us pray for Joe and all children who are praying for their parents who are in critical need this Advent. We pray for healing, health, and all temporal needs. May the Good News of Advent that "God is with us in this life and the next", console us as we prepare for His Coming.

For many families this Christmas will be a time to rejoice in the simple things. One more day to say I love you; one more meal so we won't go hungry; one more prayer to help heal broken relationships and broken dreams. God comes to us one and all and helps us with His grace when we most need it. It is His love and grace that embraces us as we face life's trials. May God's perpetual light continue to shine upon us and remain with us and our loved ones forever. Our hearts and prayers are with Joe and all those in dire need this season.

Peter, John and Lori

Phoenix, AZ - On any given night in America, anywhere from 700,000 to 2 million people are homeless, according to estimates of the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty.

Peter, John and Lori look from one day to the next for a place to sleep and are hoping the local shelter has room for them. They represent thousands of people who once had jobs and homes and are now homeless. Most food pantries and shelters are reporting a decline in donations so resources are decreasing while the number of people in need is on the rise. Let us lift up in prayer all those who are homeless and those who care for them. Make a difference this Advent Season through your prayers and generous giving.

Lord, inspire our hearts to be generous and open to all those in need. We pray for all the homeless who are sick, poor and dying. Protect us from spiritual blindness and help us grow in our desire to serve you and our neighbor.
