Relief Efforts in the Sudan

Mercy Corp International - Mercy Corp welcomes the recent cease fire in the Southern Sudan and asks our prayers for increased access to those in need in war-torn countries.

During the last six weeks, relief organizations have experienced threats, looting and robberies in Southern Sudan that greatly restricted their ability to provide life-saving assistance. In addition, battles and attacks limited access to some of the more remote areas, where families were left with no support.

With this cease fire agreement, Mercy Corp and their colleagues hope there will be a quick improvement in the security conditions that will help them reach more people with the food, water and supplies they desperately need.

Unconditional access is urgently needed, explained our South Sudan Country Director, Mathieu Rouquette. Security constraints are preventing humanitarian workers from reaching some of the hardest hit areas and the approaching rainy season will only make it more difficult to transport supplies to those who need it most. It is critical we reach these communities now, before some locations are entirely cut-off from assistance.

Please pray for a sustained and fruitful cease-fire in the Southern Sudan. Thousands of lives are in need of humanitarian relief. For more ways you can support Mercy Corp and their efforts go to Mercy Corp.org.

May our Lord continue to bless you and your loved ones for all the good that you do especially on behalf of the sick, the poor, the hungry and the dying in the world.

Children in Need

San Francisco, CA - This week a March for Life was held in San Francisco as part of a week long effort to raise the social consciousness of our society worldwide for the Right to Life of all children in need from the pre-born to natural death.

In 41 years since the court decisions Roe vs Wade, 55 million abortions have been reported. Even today the pre-born children of our generation are in jeopardy and need our help. Their request is: "Choose Love; Choose Life; Choose Goodness."

Please pray for all the "Children in Need" in our country, in our world and within our media outreach.

Whether our children are being killed in the womb, killed by war or violence or lack of food and neglect, they need your prayers daily so the mind sets and attitudes that have caused such death and destruction will change from indifference or neglect to commitment and protection of the sanctity of life for all ages, cultures and economic status. Promote life, wherever you are by your thoughts, words and actions. Pray for our children everywhere; we are the guardians of God's future Sons and Daughters.

Change the world one prayer at a time. Your prayers and actions are urgently needed.

Lord, thank you for the gift of life. Help us to do all we can to safeguard human life in all stages of development. Life is a gift from you; help us to honor and encourage it in all that we do. Transform all souls so that the honor and dignity of all our children are promoted and cherished. We ask this through the intercession of the Holy Family of Nazareth, all the Saints and Angels and through the Holy and Blessed Trinity. In Jesus' name we pray: "Little ones of God you are not forgotten; we are here for you in prayer, thought and action!" Amen

Chronic Fatigue Patients

Los Angeles, CA - This seems to be the age of Chronic Fatigue. So many souls are suffering from a lack of energy, poor digestion and a general weakened condition with no diagnosis in sight. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome seems to be an epidemic in our present day and age.

Please pray for all those with undiagnosed medical conditions, especially those with a chronic digestive or neurological condition. May God grant them the grace of good health soon. May all medical personnel, who treat them be given wisdom and insight into chronic fatigue conditions and how to treat them.

Lord, we call upon you in our hour of need to give us right hope, patient perseverance and abiding courage to face the challenges of today. May our prayers for healing and confidence in future health, grant us the power of faith to live in optimism and abandonment to your holy and perfect will.

Lord, please use everything we experience in this life for the good of souls and our salvation in your kingdom. We ask this through the intercession of Good Saint Joseph, Patron of a happy life and a holy death. Amen

The Sisters of the Missionary Institute of Mary in Oyam

Oyam, Uganda - The Diocese of Lira, in northern Uganda, is in the region that was plagued by civil war for 20 years. This bloody conflict, which finally came to an end in 2007, left many deep scars and open wounds behind. Many are still traumatized and live in fear to this day. The educational level is poor, since most people were unable to attend school during the war, and there is widespread, grinding poverty. There are also many victims of HIV or full-blown AIDS. All these people need a great deal of help.

The Sisters of the Missionary Institute of Mary, Mother of the Church, are doing their best to alleviate and uplift the situation, working in places where there are otherwise no doctors or nurses. In the remote district of Oyam, they bring hope to ordinary people whom no one else seems to care about. They run a hospital here with 178 beds which they took over in 1993 from the Comboni Sisters. They also run a clinic with an urgently needed AIDS center.

Now the 11 religious Sisters working here face the imminent prospect of having to give up their missionary apostolate. For the building they live in, built in 1953, was already in a poor state of repair when they moved in. At the time, the Sisters hoped they could soon renovate it, but they didn't have the money, and the building has only continued to deteriorate still further. Rain pours in through the holes in the roof, and termites have invaded the building and eaten away the wood to the point that parts of the roof have already collapsed and the Sisters are in real danger by continuing to stay there.

A donation of $10,000 will help make the repairs they urgently need to stay. Click on the Church in Need.org to find out how you can help. Pray for the many projects listed on their homepage. You can make a difference. Pray for "The Church in Need" all over the world.

Peace in 2014

The New Year has just begun and already there is an explosion on a crowded commercial street of a south Beirut neighborhood. Five people were killed.

In our local neighborhoods there are children in need, families who are homeless and many elderly with grave health problems. Our list for prayer intentions seems endless and the New Year has only begun.

Let us persevere in prayer and pray for peace in the world, in our homes and especially in our hearts. Pope Francis in his messages ushering in the New Year encouraged everyone to offer "courageous prayer" for places like Syria, Beirut and the Sudan.

Lord, help us to pray as we ought and grant us the gifts of your Holy Spirit, especially when our intentions go beyond words and our concerns seem to be overwhelming.

Come, Holy Spirit fill our hearts, our homes and the world. Transform our lives so that God's perfect will is realized in all areas of our lives until at last there is abiding peace. Amen

Mary, Mother of God intercede for our intentions now and always. Amen
