Saint Augustine Pray for us!

Feast of Saint Augustine - As we celebrate the Feast of Saint Augustine, let us remember the powerful story of his conversion which teaches us so much about the power of prayer and God's unconditional mercy for all sinners. St. Augustine prayed "The Seven Penitential Psalms" Psalm 6, Psalm 32, Psalm 38, Psalm 51, Psalm 102, Psalm 130, Psalm 143 often before his death. His "Confessions" and many writings as Doctor of the Church inspire all souls to seek God through a deep commitment to the conversion process. Following is one of his famous passages, which reveal his heart's desire to know, serve and please God.

"Late have I loved you, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new, late have I loved you! You were within me, but I was outside, and it was there that I searched for you. In my unloveliness I plunged into the lovely things which you created. You were with me, but I was not with you. Created things kept me from you; yet if they had not been in you they would have not been at all. You called, you shouted, and you broke through my deafness. You flashed, you shone, and you dispelled my blindness. You breathed your fragrance on me; I drew in breath and now I pant for you. I have tasted you, now I hunger and thirst for more. You touched me, and I burned for your peace." - From the Confessions of Saint Augustine, Bishop in the Office of Readings for August 28th Vol 4 p.1357, "The Liturgy of the Hours"; Catholic Publishing 1975.

54 Day Novena For Family Healing

Phoenix, AZ - Bishop Thomas Olmsted encourages all the faithful to participate in a 54 day devotion. "Use these 54 days, beginning August 21 and culminating on October 13, to gather your family in prayer.

We humbly suggest that at the beginning or end of each day, or during a meal, pray with your family either: One decade of the Rosary (if you have young children), or a full rosary; followed by the Family Prayer of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Include any special intentions that your family may have.

Family Prayer of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for the Centenary of Our Lady of Fatima:

Mother Mary, we consecrate our entire family to your Immaculate Heart. We desire to renew the promises of our baptism and place each member of our family, through this consecration, into loving union with your Holy Family.

At Fatima, dear Mother of God, you appeared with Saint Joseph and the Child Jesus, blessing the world. Intercede for our family that each of us grow in the virtues and joy which you lived as a family. Help us to grow as faithful disciples of Jesus; help our domestic church to grow as a light which gives your Son glory from our home.

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for Jesus' peace to fill each member of our family. (You may wish to name each family member, or a particular family member, at this point if it seems right to do so) Never permit any member of our family to stray from the Catholic Faith. For any member of our family who is beset by doubts, we beseech you to be their guide through the darkness back to the light of your Son.

Watch over our perseverance so that we may all one day be reunited with you and the whole family of God in our Father's house. Amen"

Prayer of Abandonment

Scottsdale, AZ - Please join us in prayer as we pray for spiritual courage, fortitude and perseverance for all souls who are faced with difficult or impossible situations. May the joy of doing God's will and the help of our loving Father be a source of encouragement and peace.

"Father, I abandon myself into your hands;
do with me what you will.

Whatever you may do, I thank you:
I am ready for all, I accept all.

Let only your will be done in me,
and in all your creatures -
I wish no more than this, O Lord.

Into your hands I commend my soul:

I offer it to you with all the love of my heart,
for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself, to surrender myself into your hands without reserve, and with boundless confidence,
for you are my Father." - Charles de Foucauld
